FAQs

Q. Where do the donated items go?
A. The Princess Shop accepts the donation of dresses, shoes, jewelry, etc. for our inventory. Items will be stored at The Princess Shop head office in Saskatoon, where girls in need are able to come in for personal fittings to find the perfect dress.

Q. Who will the donated items be supplied for?
A. The items will be available for use by female Grade 12 graduates each year, and for one reason or another, are in need at the time of their graduation. The girls will be able to borrow items from The Princess Shop for their grad, then all items will be dry cleaned so that many other girls can continue to use the items.

Q. How do you decide who gets the donated items?
A. The project is advertised through high school guidance counselors, posters, the media, and use of our website and Facebook group. Then, young women who are interested in the program will submit an application form, so we can get to know them a bit better and get their contact information. We will then contact each girl to set up a personal fitting. We will not take applicants through an interview process to determine which girls will benefit most from the program, because we believe that the program is self-selecting. A girl who can afford a dress for her grad will not want to borrow a used one. When a girl approaches for a dress and the opportunity to enhance her graduation experience, our dream is to not turn any girls away, this is why we need donations!

Q. Is there an organization that helps young men with their tux rentals?
A. We are not aware of an organization in Saskatchewan that helps boys with tuxes and suits for graduation, however if someone was interested in starting something like this up – we would be more than willing to help. At this time, our organization is focusing solely on improving the self confidence of young women.

Saskatoon SK, S7K 1S8

Q. Do you provide your services for Grade 8 Graduates?
A. At this time, The Princess Shop is focusing on the Grade 12 Graduation event. However, we will certainly lend dresses to Grade 8 Graduates in need of a gown for her special day, we will just not be able to provide the hair, makeup, photos, and accessories available for the Grade 12 Graduates.

Q. Is there a cost for the program?
A. The Princess Shop’s dress lending program is provided free of charge. However, all Princesses are subject to a small deposit, to be reimbursed in full when the dress is returned.

In-town Princesses: For all girls who live in a center where we have established a chapter (Saskatoon, Humboldt, or North Battleford), she will work with the designated regional chapter representatives to get her dress fitted in Saskatoon, and she will be required to pay an $40.00 deposit fee for the dress, to be reimbursed in full when the dress is returned.

Out-of-town Princesses: For all girls who do not live in a center where we have established a chapter (Saskatoon, Humboldt, or North Battleford), she must arrange her own transportation to come to Saskatoon for a fitting, and she will be required to pay an $60.00 deposit fee for the dress, to be reimbursed in full when the dress is returned.

Deposits are due before the dress fitting. Only cash will be accepted for deposit payments, and no dress will be loaned if the deposit has not been paid.
